How Long Does Designing a Logo Take?

Nail the basics first, detail the details later

– Chris Anderson

A logo is the most basic element that helps define a business in the most appropriate manner. A great logo is hence, a combination of time and untiring efforts, both of which lead to a design that encourages customer connectivity.

However; not all logos are made with the same zeal. Some of them may take days to be created while others may reach completion in a few hours. The time a logo takes in being created largely depends upon the type of the project, the determination of the designer, and the approval requirements of the client.

This article is meant to discuss the time it takes for different logos to be designed together with the reasons behind their early completion or delay.

Logos that take a few minutes

Some logos take only a few minutes in being designed. These are instant logos that do not involve a thought process or contain a meaning behind them. These logos are often simple in nature with no addition of complex elements.

Many times, the clients already have an idea in mind and require a designer to help them give the idea a digital form. In this case, the quick delivery of the designs does not suggest that no thought process was put into its making. Rather the quick speed comes as a result of the idea been already contemplated.

Logos that take a few hours

Then there are logos that take up a few hours of the designer. Unlike the first type, the designer, in this case, goes through a complete process of brainstorming, conceptualizing, designing, and delivering. The designer, however; keeps things quick while allotting a few hours to each phase.
The designs can be meaningful here, however; the effort put into it is minimal since the designing phase tends to last a few hours only.

Logos that take a few days

Each design phase is allotted more time here, probably days. The design concepts are also sent to the client for approval while changes are incorporated as per the client’s requirements. Hence, it is the checking, approving, and revising of the designs that take up much time of the designer, making the process long yet fruitful. The designs that come out, as a result, are good and valuable.

Logos that take a few weeks/months

This commonly happens in case of larger companies that are habitual of conducting researches before jumping into the designing phase. The research is hence, what takes up much of their time while also making the design strong and durable. These designs prove to be hit in the market since they are made as per the preferences and likes of the customers. Though they are expensive, however; are successful at instantly grabbing the attention of their target market.

Good things take time

Things that are done in haste usually do not meet the expectations right. Good things always take time, hence if you want your design to be great and meaningful, give it in the hands of a designer that bestows it with the time it needs.
