The food industry runs on scrumptious food, however; attracting customers towards a food brand needs a better strategy than merely tantalizing their taste buds. A good strategy requires good communication which can be fostered only through a design that hits the target market right. Talking about designs, logos play a major role in directing customer’s perception while shaping their preferences for a particular brand. Logos in the food industry are majorly made to represent taste combined with elements such as freshness, hygiene, novelty etc. as per the focus of the brand. Logos in this industry hence are thoughtfully made since food is not something people wish to compromise on. In case if you are still confused regarding the basics of logo creation for a food brand, here are a few tips for you.

• Simple is Fine

With logos it has always been a concept that good ones contain a hidden meaning in them. True as it may sound, the concept does not apply to each brand. There are several food giants in the market that have kept it obvious and yet have gained the attention they needed. Taco Bell, a well-known brand in the US, has been known for its purple-belled logo. Considering the name of the brand, a bell is not an out-of-the-box icon to come up with, however; it still has been successful in gaining the right recognition. Another famous American brand Applebee’s also portrays an apple in its logo making the icon obvious yet relatable.

Hence, do not get scared if no distinct idea comes to your mind. Sometimes the less obvious too steals the limelight.

• Meaningful Logos

The above mentioned details do not suggest that successful brands can’t go for a meaningful logo. There are several food chains in the market that have opted for logos that contain a subliminal message veiled in their logo for the customers to identify and decipher. The Wendy’s logo contains a “MOM” written in the collar of the mascot whereas; the McDonald’s logo is claimed to portray a healthy pair of breasts. Though not visible to the naked eye these logos do have an impact on the subconscious mind while influencing thieir customers in different ways.

• Add a Friendly Face

Smiles are always in fashion and often restaurant logos are seen to have a friendly face added to the visual representation of the brand. These mascots help a lot in shaping the identity of the brand while giving it a pleasant look. Also, the wide-smiled faces make the brand more approachable and welcoming. The Starbucks logo is one such example of having a friendly face in its icon. Though the former is quite complicated to design, these friendly mascots can be as simple as Carl Junior’s smiling star. It all depends upon the resources a brand is bestowed with and the kind of features that the brand’s target considers as jovial.

• Brand’s Tagline

A tagline is often added to the brand for the sake of making its essence clear to the customers. It is likely that the customers may not be able to judge the nature of the brand by its name, however; a tagline added to it can definitely help in identifying the same. Hence, equipping the customers with the right detail with respect to a brand is often a wise thing to do. How to do it? You already know the answer.

The color of Subway’s logo may depict it being healthy, however; the meaning is subliminally communicated and hence, difficult to understand. But Subway’s tagline which reads “Eat Fresh” appropriately portrays the idea of it being a source of healthy meal.

Taglines are endorsers of the brand message that may be communicated by the brand through various means, however; is not interpreted correctly.

• The Right Colors

Food industry is known for its red colored logos since the color serves as an appetite enhancer according to the psychologist community. Though red shines high in this industry, there are brands that have taken the risk of bending the trail while opting for a different color which depicts the essence of their brand perfectly. Subway chose to go with the color green, white and yellow for the sake of representing freshness. On the other hand Taco Bell, another famous food chain, opted for purple and pink in their logo to make it appear more youthful and approachable.

Conclusion
Deciding upon the type of logo to be created for a food brand is a difficult task, however; with the right knowledge and skills a brand can always create a masterpiece while conquering the top position in the concentrated food market.
